Hello, I’m Ron Thomas. I’ve been working in the eyewear industry for over 30 years, and I’ve been selling eyewear as a New York State Licensed Optician for more than 20 of those years. During that time, I’ve helped thousands of people enjoy the gift of sight while allowing them to express themselves through eyewear. It has ultimately been a rewarding career.

As I progressed through that career, I noticed aspects of frame design that made my job of helping people of African descent and many other "hard to fit" ethnicities challenging. Often, my customers were settling for style over proper fit and comfort. African Americans and those with similar facial features often find that many of today’s frames are not designed to fit properly. For years I’ve sold eyewear to people where radical adjustments had to be made to the frames in order to make them more comfortable. Many would end up settling for simply having "a nice frame", not having much choice otherwise.

When I saw ill-fitting eyewear on strangers and on celebrities, I knew other opticians were experiencing the same challenges. Any optician can attest to the dread of having to make such an adjustment on a client's $450 designer frame. This led me to the concept of designing eyewear with dimensions that agree with the facial structures of People of Color.

African Americans and other People of Color have been on the forefront of pop culture, fashion, food, and music for more than a century. Taking inspiration from that, I invite you to be original. I invite you to be daring. Don't settle. Let Icon Iwear give you the look and fit you can't find anywhere else.
